Three Trends That Will Shape NewChurch LIVE

We find ourselves in the midst of a dramatic sea change brought about by the confluence of Covid and new technologies. As everyone was forced to stay at home or modify their services over the past 18 months, NCL was able to continue without missing a beat and never closed our *virtual* doors. As we come out of this time, we are noticing a few trends (trends that were on our radar prior to Covid). What are those trends and what are some of exciting outcomes we see on the horizon?

A Hybrid Model with Most Joining Online
The first trend is obvious… the vast majority of congregants will continue to choose online as their primary way to enjoy services. Nationally, churches have seen their re-open attendance, on average, recover to 36% of previous levels.

One other way to look at that comes from last week’s service. Out of a total attendance of 407, measured for a full Sunday, only 12% were in person. The rest accessed the service via LiveStream, YouTube, Podcast, or Facebook throughout the day. Many will access it throughout the week as well.

A Distributed Church
The second trend will be the evolution of a distributed church. That means our primary model will shift from a linear funnel based on steps to a distributed network based on connection. That network includes many touch points, ranging from our daily morning reflection, to small groups, to service opportunities, to weddings, baptisms and funerals, to Sunday itself etc…. It is a network where people “touch” NCL in many different arenas.

A Focus on Our Core Mission
For churches that focus only on content, there will not be much of a future. There are, simply put, too many other more appealing options if one is merely looking for the most electrifying experience. What can we offer? Instead of the most electrifying experience, we can offer the most meaningful experience we can share, an experience always pointed up to God, out to community, and inward towards the higher angels of our nature.

Our mission statement will serve us increasingly in that endeavor… “A new spiritual home where belonging and service matter.”

Conclusion
As a Pastor, I know this is a journey. When we launched NCL 12 years ago, there were clear and compelling models to follow, and follow them we did. Now we are truly “off the trail”; we are truly pioneers, one group among many trying humbly to find a way forward. That journey my friends is good!

Want to connect more with Pastor Chuck?

Ever wonder what Pastor Chuck is reading or how he gets inspired? Or maybe you or someone you love needs some pastoral counseling (virtual options available) or maybe you will be in the area and you just would love the chance to have lunch with Pastor Chuck.

The best way to reach out or follow along is via social media via Facebook or Instagram

There you can see what he’s reading, service trips he’s heading out to, connections, inspirations and everything in between. You can also Direct Message pastor Chuck there to set up a virtual pastoral counseling session, reach out about a baptism/wedding etc. or even set up a meal with him (at his favorite restaurant…yup, you guessed it, Bertuccis).

Community Service

Beef Donation

Join together with other congregants and help us purchase beef from a family farm to be distributed in the Philadelphia area. Many food banks are seeing higher than average demand and often things like beef and other meat (especially high quality meat) is hard to come by.

We have a local family farm that wishes to donate their beef at cost if enough people are interested in supporting this initiative. They process and sell the meat at 1/4 cow intervals. We are hoping to raise enough to contribute 1/4 cow that will then be distributed locally through “Helping Hands in the Northeast”

NewChurch LIVE would like to double our efforts and maximize our impact! For every dollar raised by the congregation NewChurch LIVE will match it and donate that amount to Heiffer International. Heiffer International supports communities across the world by training farmers, donating animals and sustainably working to end poverty by supporting and investing in local farmers and their communities.
