Rupture and Repair
5th, August 2025Description
This morning I’m reflecting on one of life’s harder truths: some people simply won’t like us, no matter what we do. In those moments we face a spiritual crossroads, a rhythm that God weaves into all relationships: rupture and repair. Sometimes that repair is quiet, unfolding only in our own hearts, and sometimes it renews the bond entirely. Other times, in love, we let go. God’s promise to Abraham that his “seed will inherit the gate of your foes” reminds us that seed is the faith born of love, planted both within and around us. We never fully know what fruit will grow, but our calling is to keep planting. As Eugene Peterson wrote, “failing in love is better than succeeding in pride.” So even when it stings, we choose love, unconditional and without demand, trusting that in this humble work of regeneration that God is shaping us into something more heavenly.
