Rupture and Repair

Life brings rupture. Plans unravel, relationships strain, and we find ourselves poor in spirit, humbled by a road we never expected to walk. Yet Jesus pairs that honesty with a promise: “Blessed are the poor in spirit,” for the kingdom of God can come close, here and now. In Swedenborg’s view, heaven takes shape wherever love becomes useful action. Repair, then, is a verb. We roll up our sleeves, do what is ours to do with humility, and place the outcome in God’s hands. Even when another person will not meet us halfway, we can repair our side of the street, receive the wisdom God gives, and say, “I’ve done what I can do.” That is surrender. That is how we begin to live heaven now.
