The Last Gift We Leave Our Loved Ones

What is the last gift I want to leave the people I love? As I get older, I think about the practical things, including a will. I also think about peace. I can begin offering that gift now, through forgiveness that softens old resentments and gratitude for the life we share. Swedenborg reminds us that love and life continue beyond death, even as their form changes. That gives me hope as I face a transition that can feel frightening. We are all writing and performing in an unfinished symphony, with frayed edges and hopes we may never fulfill. Perhaps I can still come to a sense of completeness: I have done the best I could with what God gave me to see, and I can entrust the rest to God. My prayer is that, when my time comes, my loved ones feel the harmony of our relationships and the peace that passes all understanding.
