Contest or Quest

I sit with the story of the Wise Men and feel its quiet pull, a call toward a life shaped by quest rather than an endless contest. Herod clutches the world like a chessboard and everything bends toward power, yet the star rises and stirs something far deeper, something Swedenborg beautifully describes as heaven flowing into the open places of the heart when we move toward goodness and truth. I watch the Wise Men lose the star, forget, remember, rejoice, and I recognize my own rhythm in their steps. A quest grows this way. It nudges us away from the frantic game and into a practice of heaven that feels lived, daily, simple, brave. We breathe. We realign. We allow the Lord to rekindle direction, and joy arrives with startling warmth. And in that moment the words surface again like a blessing whispered across centuries: “As in heaven, so upon the earth.”
