Getting to the Core of Life

This morning I invite you to look past the surface of your life and gently ask what truly fills it, because while “the container is important,” it is always the contents that give it meaning. We so easily “fall in love with the container,” with accomplishments, appearances, and all the outward pieces, yet the Lord calls us inward, where, as Swedenborg teaches, what seems higher is actually deeper, and where goodness lives at the core. The real core of life is this deep, deep, deep goodness, and that is what endures beyond any résumé, what people speak of when a life is remembered, what heaven itself is formed from within us. So today, look for that goodness, in yourself and in others, even when it feels hidden, and practice true service by honoring where another’s life is quietly coming alive. This is where God meets us. This is where life becomes real.
