It All Belongs
31st, July 2025Description
Today, I want to speak gently into a phrase that can be both comforting and confusing: “it all belongs.” For those moving through heartbreak, that line can feel hollow, even harmful, if it implies that tragedy itself was divinely scripted. But that’s not the God I know. I don’t believe God plans suffering. I believe God’s heart is the first to break. God’s providence doesn’t just show up halfway through the story. It holds the whole of life from beginning to end, always bending toward healing and love (Divine Providence §124, Heaven and Hell §302). It’s not that everything is good, but that even in the darkest valleys, goodness remains possible. Loss cracks us open. But often that breaking becomes a blessing, creating room for deeper compassion, for softer hearts, for connection we never imagined. When we say, “it all belongs,” it’s not about justifying pain. It’s about trusting that love is never wasted. And that somehow, even when we don’t understand the shape of the puzzle, we are still being held.
