Opening Up with Dr. Dan Gottlieb
27th, January 2019Description
We welcome Dr. Dan Gottlieb (one of the guiding lights in the Philadelphia area!) into our Opening Up series and invite us to practice courageous vulnerability in real life. I name the ache of fig leaves that hide our tender places, and I hear Dan’s medicine: “The hunger to be known exceeds even the hunger to be loved.” He tells the truth about shame that “grows in the dark” and how “sunlight kills it.” He calls us to “have love and compassion in the driver’s seat” and to “love fearlessly,” even when fear argues loudly. I pause with his prayerful line, “I stand naked before you,” and feel the holy shift that happens when two become one in care and presence. We make room for that here. Stories, confession, laughter, tears. Community forms when we show up as we are.
