Letting Go of Overthinking
8th, July 2025Description
Sometimes we just think too much. In today’s 10 Minutes of Morning Calm, I invite us into a gentler, more spacious way of being. One that lets go of compulsive overthinking and embraces the simplicity of love. Swedenborg writes that when we demand to grasp everything with the senses and intellect, faith evaporates (Secrets of Heaven §2832). That’s a trap I know all too well. Instead, we’re called to a kind of soulfulness Mary Oliver once described as “pure attentiveness.” A looking outward, not inward. We can waste so much time spinning stories in our heads, instead of just living the commandments: don’t do harm, and love God and the person right in front of you. As I’ve shared before, “we should be so caught up in the relationships God is calling us to that we don’t have time for a lot of debate.” So take a breath, let go of the mental clutter, and choose the calm of connection.
