Angels Go Before You

I reflect today on the quiet, powerful truth that angels go before us. In Scripture they are called messengers, and in the New Church we dare to say something even more intimate. Angels are “the human race at its best.” They live in heaven, yes, yet they also walk among us now. I see them in people who bring peace when things feel chaotic, who offer direction without force, who carry deep compassion while still honoring accountability. These are people who chart a third way forward. They do not argue or dominate. They bring light. And light does what light always does. It allows us to see clearly. In tumultuous times, clarity becomes a holy gift. Angels acknowledge that nothing good or true comes from themselves, only from the Lord, and that humility shines through them. When we encounter humanity at its best, we glimpse the image and likeness of God breaking through again, just as at creation. So I invite you to draw alongside the angels in your own life. Those who represent the very best of human nature. Allow them to walk ahead of you. Let them guide you. Let them lend you clarity. God sends angels before you still.
