The Long Road Home

10th, February 2026

Description

Good morning friends. I am reflecting today on a truth we all keep relearning. The journey home is long. There is no snapping of the fingers, no spiritual shortcut, even when we briefly taste “the peace that passes understanding” and feel in the flow of God’s love. Then life interrupts. Anxiety at 2:30 in the morning. A phone charger. Taxes. A bonked head in a Florida kitchen. Very human moments. From a New Church perspective, this long road is holy ground. Spirituality is the art of homecoming, a returning to first, where we come back and know the place for the first time. Swedenborg reminds us that through reformation and rebirth we appear to have more of God within us, yet only because we are “recipients of life, not life itself” (Secrets of Heaven 3043). That life is already flowing. Our work is openness. Patience. Gratitude placed right inside the day, even inside our anxieties. Dealing with them is spiritual work. When we accept what is and give thanks where we are, something softens. Something real happens now. The journey takes time. And that is okay. Bring patience. Bring gratitude. The Lord brings you home.
