A Spiritual Framework for Marriage and Relationships

What if the greatest teachers in our lives are our relationships. What spiritual framework might be helpful? In this reflection, I am preparing for Sunday’s message, “A Spiritual Framework for Marriage and Intimate Relationships,” with a simple invitation for all of us, whether single, married, divorced, or widowed: “practice heaven now.” From a New Church perspective, heaven is not a life without challenge, but a life where love and wisdom, head and heart, good and truth, move together toward useful service. Relationships teach us this every day. We learn to ask, with real curiosity and gratitude, how someone we love sees the world, what their heart reaches for, and where we can join hands in service. Marriage becomes stronger when two people look to the Lord together, find their “true north,” and move outward into the world with purpose. It is simple. It is not always easy. Yet when love, wisdom, and use come together, it’s quite a beautiful thing.
