What Does It Really Mean to Love God?

What does it really mean to love God? I know that phrase can feel distant, abstract, even detached from reality. So let’s bring it back down to earth. Jesus gives us two great commandments: “Love the Lord your God, and your neighbor as yourself.” For me, that means we love God by loving other people. Swedenborg helps us see that love becomes real through charity, usefulness, and the way we actually treat the person in front of us. So maybe the invitation is simple. Pray, “God, not my will, but yours,” and let that prayer soften your edges. Listen a little better. Notice need. Become more reachable, the way Jesus makes God reachable. Love of God creates softness. Love of the neighbor becomes service. Soft serve. Corny, maybe, but easy to remember.
