The Gift of Simplicity

A sincere good morning on my early walk reminds me how much grace can live in something small. Jesus gives us the heart of the spiritual life with such clarity: “Love the Lord your God and the person right in front of you.” Swedenborg teaches that love becomes real through use, through the good we bring into another person’s life. That is where a simple word, a shared meal, a thoughtful question, or a willingness to listen begins to matter. At first, spiritual growth can feel like pushing a heavy flywheel, requiring patience and effort when little seems to move. Keep going. In time, love gathers momentum, connection deepens, and God’s life begins to flow through ordinary moments. Notice the person in front of you. Love them well.
