What Is Original Blessing? Remembering That Life Is Good

Friends, I want to begin our week with a thought worth carrying into whatever lies ahead: Life is good. Very good. This is original blessing, the goodness God names in creation before the story turns toward our human struggles and mistakes. It gives us somewhere to stand. In Heaven and Hell, Swedenborg describes the pattern we are created to live into, with goodness flowing from our deeper thoughts into our words and deeds as the Lord leads us. I love the possibility that our connection to heaven can both anchor us and become the wind that sends us forward to make a small difference. Of course, our days have their ups and downs. Sometimes we are playing with a yo-yo walking uphill, still making progress even when today feels difficult. Friction belongs to the journey. As we practice repentance, let go of what pulls us away from love, and bring goodness into ordinary moments, we live more fully into that original blessing. Take a breath. God’s goodness holds us, and there is room for hope.
