Only Human

As we walk toward Easter, I reflect on how easily we imagine faith as something set apart, reserved for people who “totally get it,” when in truth it unfolds right here in the ordinary choices of everyday life. Jesus stands among His disciples, fully aware that one will betray Him and another will deny Him, and still He says, “Do not let your hearts be troubled… in my Father’s house are many rooms” . That’s the heart of it. He sees us clearly, in our mixed motives and faltering love, and He embraces us anyway, guiding rather than condemning. Swedenborg reminds us that the Lord’s divine providence works gently, never violating our freedom, always bending even our missteps toward good (Divine Providence 27, 96). So we keep going. Some days steady, some days messy. We accept that we are imperfect, and then we extend that same mercy outward, because “you know the way” is not a demand for perfection but an invitation to live in compassion, forgiveness, and trust that He is already preparing a place for each of us (John 14; see also Heaven and Hell 33, 522).
