Breaking Self-Destructive Behaviors

16th, April 2025

Description

Good morning, friends. Today we take an honest look at the self-destructive loops we all fall into—and how God lovingly calls us out of them. Using the biblical imagery of Sodom and Gomorrah, I invite you to think of these cities as metaphors for parts of our minds where destructiveness takes root. Swedenborg reminds us in Secrets of Heaven 2447 that God never condemns us to hell—we do that ourselves when we cut ourselves off from goodness. Self-destruction often follows a painful loop: doing more and more of what works less and less. The real breakthrough begins with truth—”you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” That freedom starts with a courageous step: admitting the problem. Denial, deflection, and minimization only keep us trapped. But when we move gently, with grace and honesty, toward admitting our struggles, the Lord meets us there with hope, peace, and new life. Whether it’s through spiritual support or professional help, healing is possible—and it begins with honesty and love.
