Favorite Player, Favorite Team

When I look at my wife, I think, “she’s my favorite player.” Our marriage is my favorite team. That simple image opens up a deeper question about building meaningful relationships: how do we cherish the people we love, nurture the relationships we share, and carry that goodness into the world? In our New Church faith, the Swedenborgian understanding of love connects it with usefulness, with the good we actually do for others. “I love my wife. I love our marriage. What can our marriage do out there into the world?” The same question reaches into our families, friendships, and work communities. Jesus shows us how to walk alongside one another with grace, compassion, and care. Love your people. Love the team you create together. Then look for the good you can offer, trusting that a loving God walks with us through every mistake as we learn this life of meaning.
