Good, Better, Best

This morning, I invite you to reflect on the grace of “good, better, best.” So often we divide life into binaries—good or evil, right or wrong—but spiritual growth is rarely that simple. Inspired by Swedenborg’s teachings and C.S. Lewis’s words, we explore how even our imperfect efforts can be held in love by the Lord. Whether our good deeds come from self-interest, duty, or genuine love, the Lord meets us where we are and gives us the precious gift of trying again. As Swedenborg writes, “The Lord regards the end in view, which is what makes an act good or not good” (Secrets of Heaven §1317). This time together is a gentle call to see life as a journey of progress, not perfection—to trade in judgment for compassion, and to respond to life’s moments with whatever light we have today.
