Lessons For Graduates: Lesson 2 – Find the Right Friends
20th, May 2026Description
Today we continue Lessons for Graduates with a simple, life-shaping truth: “find the right friends by being the right friend.” Jesus says, “I have called you friends,” and in that beautiful shift we see a God who walks with us, close enough to be known, loved, and reflected in our own relationships. Friendship, at its best, becomes a form of spiritual direction. We need “lighthouse personalities,” people planted in higher purpose, people who help ships come in and ships go out, people we can set your watch by. Yet the real invitation begins inside us. The Lord reminds us that “we have agency” and “we have free will,” so instead of anxiously asking, “How am I going to find my people here?” we can practice becoming steady, honest, useful, and true. Swedenborg teaches that heaven is built through love expressed in use, and friendship grows in the same soil. Look outward. Serve. Live with deep integrity. Be your true self, and make room for friends who can see that true self and walk forward with you.
