Letting the Past Go

26th, September 2025

Description

I greet you this morning as we sit with a tender truth: Letting the past go. I name the grief and the gratitude. We honor what served us well, then with love we “bury my dead,” as Abraham does, to make room for life to rise again. Swedenborg writes that this burial signals emerging from spiritual night into morning, when an earlier form fades and the Lord raises up something living and new. I feel that in our shift to an almost entirely online congregation. I miss the old days. I bless them. Then I look for what God is opening. Where are the little seeds? Where are the points of light? I keep hearing scripture’s call to stop turning back and keep moving forward, watching for the new thing God springs up. So we practice it right here. We place what has ended in an honored resting place, and we lean into renewal together.
