Living With Intention

What is the best intention of your heart today? I invite us to pause and put words to it. To help. To forgive. To meet someone with compassion when a relationship feels strained. Swedenborg reminds us in Heaven and Hell, “Matters of our understanding and intention are what make us human,” and describes how angels recognize the intention within our actions. Living with intention begins here, with the love God gives us and the wisdom that helps us bring it into the world. Even an impatient honk at a stoplight becomes an opportunity to acknowledge our mistake and see another person more generously. We stumble. We also grow. Our best intentions offer a place to return when resentment clouds our understanding: You want to know where Heaven is? Look at your best intentions. Dear friends, let’s allow that goodness to shape what we see and how we serve, trusting God to guide us toward a life of greater compassion and integrity.
