Moving Toward the Transcendent Horizon
25th, July 2025Description
This morning, I’m reflecting on the soul-stirring idea of transcendent horizons: those sacred glimpses beyond life’s daily grind that remind us who we really are and who we’re called to become. Inspired by Richard Beck and deeply echoed in Swedenborg’s Secrets of Heaven, it’s about moving beyond apathy into a life stirred by conscience, purpose, and unconditional love. We all feel that pull, even softly, to live from our better angels, to say a quiet yes to the direction of our deepest self. “People of depth by their very nature love to speak and act freely,” Swedenborg writes, because they’re aligned with a higher order of beauty and truth (Secrets of Heaven §4299). These aren’t lofty concepts for another day. They ask something of us now. So I invite you: take even a moment today to feel where your transcendent horizon is calling. Then move, however humbly, toward it.
