The End is the Beginning
29th, May 2025Description
Today let’s reflect on one of those tender spiritual truths we need to keep close to heart. The end is the beginning. It’s not easy to see when you’re standing in the rubble of something precious, but as Swedenborg writes, the “third day” symbolizes both the close of one state and the beginning of another (Secrets of Heaven §2788). That spiritual rhythm: Death and resurrection, loss and renewal – threads through every meaningful part of life. Whether it’s a marriage evolving through the decades, or grieving someone we dearly loved, each closing chapter carries seeds of the next. I think about my grandfather, who mourned deeply after my grandmother’s passing but found a quiet new gear, even learning guitar at summer camp in his 80s. Life is more like a puzzle without edges, built from the sacred center outward. And when we can’t hold hope for ourselves, community holds it for us. There is a beginning on the other side of sorrow, even when it feels impossible. Maybe today, if you’re at the end of something, see if you can replace the period with a comma, and let the story continue.
