Trusting the Scarred

When it comes to trust, we can learn a great deal from those who fought through great challenges. I invite you to trust people who carry scars because they have walked through fire and kept going. I picture a seasoned soldier showing us the field, someone who’s been nicked up a bit, who understands the real terrain. Scripture speaks into that journey: “I will lead you out from under the burden of Egypt and free you from their enslavement and redeem you with an outstretched arm and great judgment.” I see the Lord doing that in us right now. Swedenborg writes that this is the arc of redemption, that we come through devastations into new life, and I watch it unfold in those in recovery whose faith becomes life giving, life sustaining, lifesaving. Providence keeps working, patiently, drawing us out of whatever oppresses, both inside and out, into rebirth, forgiveness, and hope that actually holds. Today I trust the scarred voices. I learn from them. I let God lead.
