What is the Difference between Loving and Caring?

27th, May 2025

Description

This morning, I invite us into the quiet clarity of exploring a profound difference: the one between loving and caring. While they often feel synonymous, true love (especially the unconditional love God calls us to) sometimes asks us to gently let go of controlling or reacting to how others respond. “If we’re really going to develop unconditional love, we have to be able to let go of other people’s reactions.” This paradox shows up in relationships, parenting, and spiritual care, and it’s one Swedenborg also touches on. Where love flows from the Lord when we act from goodwill without needing to manipulate outcomes (Divine Love and Wisdom §47). Like a lighthouse, our role is to shine steadily, not chase ships in the storm. We can love deeply and still allow space for others to learn, grow, and face consequences. In this reflection, I pray it gives you a breath of spiritual grounding for the week ahead.
