We all have angels in our lives – those who represent the very best of humanity. They bring inspiration. Who is it for you? Who is the angel in your life? Drawing from Secrets of Heaven and the heart of New Church theology, I reflect on the beautiful truth that “angels in essence are the very best of humanity.” If you want to know what an angel looks like, look at the finest qualities in a human life refined by love and wisdom. During a gathering in Vero Beach, we shared this question around the dinner table, and it came alive. Laughter. Tears. Instant answers. The Hebrew word for angel means messenger, and when you combine messenger with the best of humanity, something stirs deep within. That resonance points to what Swedenborg teaches: heaven is formed as those angelic qualities awaken in us, shaping who we are becoming. The better angels of our nature are finding their way through our daily choices. So this week, I invite you to name them. Tell someone, “You’re an angel in my life.” Speak the gratitude out loud. Let that good energy move. Then breathe. Let heaven draw a little closer, right here, right now.
