Values vs. Preferences
16th, October 2025Description
What is more important to you, values or preferences? That is a critical spiritual question. I invite us to look honestly at “aim and frame.” Whatever we aim for shapes the frame we see. If my aim tilts toward entertainment and chasing preference, I only see what I like. Yet challenging times happen…they really do. God does not ship us off to the bottom. God joins us there and helps us to learn and move forward. So today I aim at values that matter. The name of the game is meaning. We practice repentance as rethinking our aim, then we let that new aim frame our world: forgiveness, gratitude, worship, humble service. How can I serve? How can I contribute? Each of us matters, and together we build a spiritual economy of use. This is a cool little spiritual paradigm courtesy of Arthur Brooks. When our ruling love centers on use to the neighbor, life deepens, and at the end what we valued is what remains.
