After the Fire: Walking Through the Ashes

16th, August 2026

Description

We all come to moments when life seems burned down to ashes, leaving us in shock, numbness, and deep grief. On the Road to Emmaus, two disciples walk through “the reality of loss” and “the loss of our reality,” while Jesus draws near before they can recognize Him. I believe this is often how God meets us. Quietly. We need time to grieve, and sometimes grace arrives through someone who offers the gift of sitting in the ashes with you. Swedenborg writes in Secrets of Heaven that during spiritual trials, angels from the Lord work tirelessly, “continually nurturing a sense of hope.” Slowly, life begins to open. A new normal takes shape, and faith becomes a road, not a fortress, inviting us to trust the journey, connection, and love. The pain may remain, yet God holds the whole story, and God’s heart is the first to break. When the time comes, we rise, do the next right thing, and simply take the next step.
