Lessons For Graduates: Lesson #4

22nd, May 2026

Description

People are never interruptions. In this final lesson for graduates, I reflect on what it means to become someone others can truly count on. Jesus teaches, “Let your yes be yes, let your no be no,” and that simple clarity becomes a lifelong spiritual practice. In Swedenborgian terms, our words matter because they are meant to carry what is true and good into daily life. Integrity starts small. A promise kept. A clear no. An honest yes. Over time, that faithfulness grows like compounding interest, shaping a life where people know we can be trusted. I also return to Father Gregory Boyle’s beautiful reminder that “people are never interruptions.” Life will be inconvenient. People will need us at the wrong time. Still, this is how we help build heaven here. Be a person of your word. Let people depend on you. And when someone steps into your day needing care, remember, they may be the very place where God is asking you to show up.
