Curiosity as a Spiritual Practice

26th, May 2026

Description

What if we entered today with softer edges, a deeper breath, and one life-giving question: “What’s possible here?” In this reflection, I explore curiosity as a spiritual virtue, what older theology calls a “desire for truth.” Swedenborg teaches in Secrets of Heaven 3138 that “enlightenment and perception are possible when there is a desire for love,” reminding us that truth needs warmth to grow, just as plants need more than bright sunlight. When we only want to be right, we mostly hear echoes of our own voice. But when we ask a real question, one where we really don’t know the answer, something holy opens. We listen. We understand what another person loves. We begin to see with God’s eyes. Curiosity becomes a doorway into compassion, connection, and spiritual light.
