A Religion of the Heart: Choosing Meaning Over Power
16th, June 2026Description
I want to talk about “the religion of our heart,” and the danger that comes whenever faith starts reaching for power, reputation, reward, or worldly advantage. Religion can get off track when used to feel more important, more certain, more in control, or closer to having “the ear of God.” Swedenborg offers a beautiful correction: “When we don’t consider ourselves worldly advantages, reputation, or reward, we’re not self-righteous or hypocritical.” That lands deeply for me. When those transactions fall away, we’re just left with this deep, abiding, heartfelt faith. That is the faith I want to lean into. A faith that creates worlds and cultures and ripples of meaning through humility, service, and love. So today I’m asking a simple question: “How can I live a real sense of meaning?” And wherever those little whiffs of power creep in, I want to do my best to push them aside. Be still. Let faith become clean again. Let it bring us peace, and bring us home.
