All Seeds Start in the Dark
18th, February 2026Description
“All seeds start in the dark.” That line stops me in my tracks, and it becomes the doorway into this reflection on divine providence and the quiet power of our explanatory style. God is always at work beneath the surface, arranging what Swedenborg calls the steady, hidden current of providence that leads us toward heaven, even when we “have no clue” what is unfolding. Like a child growing unseen in the womb, God forms what is living in us without our micromanaging the miracle. Yet we remain free in one sacred place. We choose the lens. We choose the story we tell about our lives. “What else is heaven but a new set of glasses?” If I decide, “I just can’t,” or “Life isn’t fair,” I constrict the soil around the seed. If I lean into curiosity and trust, if I whisper, “God’s in charge,” I make room for growth that may take decades, even eternity. So even in dark seasons, I remember that seeds are being planted. I breathe. And I ask myself which explanatory style aligns with God’s tireless work of leading every one of us home.
