Certainty To Clarity

4th, June 2025

Description

Today let’s reflect on the journey from certainty to clarity. A spiritual maturing that mirrors Abraham’s own path. Certainty can serve us well early on, like the donkey Abraham rides until he’s told to leave it behind. That donkey represents the rigid rationality and absolute confidence we often cling to. But God gently calls us to something deeper: clarity. It doesn’t shout. It stands like a lighthouse. Still, quiet, unshakable. Swedenborg writes that our first rational understanding must eventually be left behind so we can receive “spiritual rationality” from the Lord (Secrets of Heaven §2831). That’s what clarity offers: a humble awareness that we don’t see everything, but the few things we do see – we see well, in love. This kind of clarity, anchored in humility and presence, makes space for grace, for perspective, and for community. As 1 Corinthians 13 says, “Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.” Friends, may we find the courage to let go of our donkey and stand firm in the quiet, radiant place God calls us to.
