Divine Providence Only Flows One Direction

This morning, we sit with one of the most comforting truths I know—that Divine Providence flows in one direction only, always gently pulling us toward the greatest eternal good. Even when life feels uncertain or hard to understand, there’s a steady spiritual current—like gravity—that we can trust, even if we can’t fully explain it. Drawing from Swedenborg’s Secrets of Heaven (n. 1079), we reflect on how practicing goodwill, even toward those who test our patience, aligns us with that divine flow. Providence doesn’t always change our circumstances, but it changes our hearts—shaping us into people who sincerely wish others well. That simple shift, from resentment to goodwill, places us right in the stream of the Lord’s love. And maybe today, we can let ourselves be carried by it, even just a little more.
