God Didnt Give David a Crown – He Gave Him Goliath
25th, June 2025Description
I just returned from working with young adults at Tools for Life camp, and I was moved by their courage to face hard questions. One camper shared a line I can’t stop thinking about: “When God wanted to make David a king, He didn’t give him a crown. He gave him Goliath.” That’s it, right there. Our growth doesn’t come through comfort, but through challenge. And we’re not asked to know everything – just to pick up a few smooth stones, the handful of truths we’ve come to trust deeply. Maybe for you it’s “Love wins,” or “Never perfect, always better,” or “Keep God first.” Those small, sacred truths become our tools for slaying giants. Swedenborg writes that “temptations are the means of regeneration” and that the Lord allows them so we may see truths inwardly and conjoin them with good (Secrets of Heaven §8403). That’s what we’re really doing when we face life’s Goliaths: learning to see with God’s eyes, act with love, and serve with joy.
