Holding Money Differently

5th, August 2026

Description

Money can stir real fear, especially when work, retirement, or a household budget feels uncertain. I sit with those concerns while reflecting on Jesus’ invitation to “lay up for yourselves treasure in heaven,” asking how our resources might serve higher purposes in the life we are living now. In the Swedenborgian tradition, stewardship grows through the “degrees of the neighbor”: care for our loved ones, family, church, community, and world. When we see money as a flow entrusted to us for use, even a cup of coffee or a shared dinner can become an opportunity to help. This is a gentle shift from fear toward stewardship, and toward the quiet joy of being useful.
