How to Live a Perfect Life

What is the path to the perfect life? I find something beautiful in Swedenborg’s Heaven and Hell: different ways of worshipping God and approaching faith contribute to heaven’s perfection. Variety brings richness when love holds us together. I see this in conversations with couples preparing for weddings and families preparing for baptisms. Each brings a slightly different understanding of God, a different hope for the spiritual life they want to build. There is room for those voices. The way to live a perfect life is to welcome others into it. Think of the whole keyboard, with its many notes becoming a beautiful song. Our communities grow into that harmony as we learn how to love God, how to love the person right beside us, honoring the gifts and experiences each person brings. Friends, this begins with something small. Ask a question. Send a text. Listen with curiosity. We each have a voice to offer, and welcoming another person’s perspective allows us to appreciate their gifts while remaining rooted in our own faith. This is how we practice living heaven now.
