Stillness is the Answer

It Will Surprise You to Find Freedom Here

20th, June 2025

Description

In this morning’s reflection, I invite you to consider an unexpected truth: that crisis can actually clarify, and in the very center of hardship, we find a peculiar kind of freedom. Whether you’re reeling from a painful loss or wrestling with the fallout of your own mistakes, something holy unfolds. Things narrow down, the noise quiets, and you’re left with just a few precious essentials. That’s where God often meets us. As Swedenborg wrote, “All freedom is a matter of love or desire” (Heaven and Hell §45), and in moments of suffering, the clutter falls away and love – real, simple love – can finally lead. We begin to remember who we are, and whose we are. Sometimes the most powerful spiritual freedom isn’t grand or loud, but quiet and binary: a plain yes or no, a return to the self, and to God. That clarity is a gift. It’s God’s way of helping us choose what matters most. So wherever you find yourself this weekend, may you find the courage to say yes to the good, and no to the rest. And know that freedom – true freedom – is the apple of God’s eye (Divine Providence §73).
