Where does our humanity truly begin? This morning let’s reflect on the story of Abraham and Isaac. Not as a terrifying command, but as a deep parable of how the Divine gently teaches us about love, surrender, and connection. As Swedenborg writes, “Humanity begins in rationality” (Secrets of Heaven §2827), and today we explore what that means as a lived relationship between our highest ideals and everyday actions. The more we open to that divine ratio, the more we sense our shared humanity. A universal one that transcends ego, politics, and even time. It’s about learning to see the world beyond ourselves. When we allow that vision to grow, when we become “bigger than ourselves,” something astonishing happens: we begin to recognize the sacred humanity in others. That’s the invitation today.
