Will Angels Talk to Me?

Do angels talk to us? I believe they do, though often in quieter ways than we expect. Swedenborg writes that angels speak with us when we are focused on “truths that flow from good intent,” when goodwill opens us toward another person and we sincerely ask, “Help me to see the way to serve them.” This is inspiration, a living spirit that becomes a stance toward the world: patient, receptive, and willing to wait. The Hebrew word for angel means messenger, and I see those messengers in the people who bring a wise perspective, a gentle nudge, or a reminder of love. “Be kind to the stranger because we may be entertaining angels unawares.” As we pray for this kind of inspiration, angelic influence can guide our souls while preserving our freedom, deepening humility, patience, love, and a life of real meaning.
