Being Right or Being With
25th, August 2026Description
In our relationships, our ego’s primary concern is with the rightness of our position and the wrongness of others. What is the way out of this dilema without giving up what we hold dear? Faith can move us from “being right” toward “being with” others. Jesus meets people across the whole span of human experience, and I believe He calls us into that same generous presence. We still need a strong back, holding to the truths that guide us and setting loving limits when they serve what is good. Yet we also need a soft front: approachable, humble, vulnerable, and willing to connect. From a Swedenborgian Christian perspective, this means searching for “the good in the neighbor” and gently seeking to serve it, even when a relationship feels challenging. God can work through that posture to bring out the best in all of us.
